The Baltimore Orioles had a so-so week

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, Weekly Results by chinmusic on Wednesday 30 May 2007 at 11:44 am

The Orioles went 3-3 last week as they outscored their opponents 31-23.  The Orioles combined good hitting with solid pitching last week and they probably should have won more games.  The Orioles entered this week with a 23-27 record which had them in 2nd place in the American League East, 11.5 games behind the Red Sox.

Top prospect Bill Rowell is off to a good start in the minors for the Orioles

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, The Minors by chinmusic on Sunday 27 May 2007 at 12:17 am

19 year old righty swinging 3B Bill Rowell is off to a good start in Low A-ball for the Orioles.  The O’s top-rated prospect according to Baseball America has played in 3 games and he’s 5 for 13 (.385 avg, 1.044 OPS) with 2 runs scored, 1 homer, 5 RBIs and a steal.  Look for the Orioles to take their time with Rowell as he’s very young.

Jeremy Guthrie is pitching great for the Baltimore Orioles so far this season

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, Throwing Well by chinmusic on Thursday 24 May 2007 at 9:17 am

When all of the injuries hit the Orioles starting rotation they got a little bit nervous.  But, Jeremy Guthrie has stepped up and appears to be tightening his grip on his rotation spot.  In 10 games (4 starts) this season, Guthrie is 2-1 with a 2.95 ERA and a 1.06 WHIP.  In 36.2 innings this season, he has allowed 32 hits, walked 7 batters and whiffed 26.  Look for Guthrie to continue pitching well because he has pretty good stuff.

Danys Baez is still pitching awful for the Orioles

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, Pitching BP by chinmusic on Thursday 24 May 2007 at 8:50 am

Danys Baez is proving to be a waste of money as the Orioles gave him a big three year contract as a free agent.  In 23 games so far this season, Baez is 0-3 with a 6.10 ERA and a 1.26 WHIP.   In 20.2 innings this season, Baez has allowed 17 hits, 4 homers, walked 9 batters and whiffed 10.  If he doesn’t start pitching better soon the Orioles will have no choice but to quit pitching him so late in ballgames.

The Baltimore Orioles had a bad week

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, Weekly Results by chinmusic on Thursday 24 May 2007 at 8:44 am

The Orioles were 2-4 last week as they were outscored 19-16.  The Orioles wasted a lot of good pitching last week and it cost them some wins.  The Orioles entered this week with a 20-24 record which had them tied for 2nd place in the American East with the Yankees, 10.5 games behind the Red Sox.

Corey Patterson is really off at the plate for the Baltimore Orioles

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, In Need of a Slumpbuster by chinmusic on Monday 21 May 2007 at 10:07 pm

Corey Patterson has looked helpless at the plate the last week or so.  In his last 6 games, Patterson is 0 for 17 (.000 avg, .053 OPS) with 1 rbi and 1 walk.  If Patterson doesn’t start to hit soon he will find a place on the bench.  Jay Payton can handle centerfield if Patterson doesn’t start to hit the baseball soon.

Jay Gibbons is on fire with the bat for the Baltimore Orioles

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, Playing Well by chinmusic on Tuesday 15 May 2007 at 6:01 pm

Jay Gibbons is finally waking up at the plate after a very, very slow start to the season.  In his last 7 games, Gibbons is 10 for 23 (.435 avg, 1.326 OPS) with 5 runs scored, 2 homers and 4 RBIs.  Gibbons playing time will be tied to his bat as he’s a poor fielder so he’ll need to keep it up to stay on the field.

The Baltimore Orioles had a decent week

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, Weekly Results by chinmusic on Monday 14 May 2007 at 8:34 am

The Orioles were 4-3 last week despite getting outscored 41-36.  The Orioles should have been at least 5-2 as they blew a 5-0 lead yesterday to the Red Sox after they had two outs in the 9th inning.  The Orioles are now 18-20 which has them tied for 2nd place in the A.L. East, 8 games behind the Red Sox.

The Baltimore Orioles place Jon Leicaster on the DL

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, Injuries by chinmusic on Sunday 13 May 2007 at 10:49 pm

The Orioles have placed Jon Leicaster on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right shoulder.  Leicaster hurt himself in the first game he pitched for the Orioles this season.  He was the losing pitcher as he allowed 2 hits, walked 3 batters, hit a batter and allowed 4 earned runs.  The Orioles activated Scott Williamson off of the DL to replace Leicaster on the roster.  The O’s need Williamson as their bullpen has been pretty awful as of late.  Williamson is 1-0 with a 1.80 ERA and a 1.20 WHIP this season for the Orioles.

The Baltimore Orioles had a tough week

Blogged under Weekly Results by chinmusic on Saturday 12 May 2007 at 5:59 pm

The Orioles were only 2-4 last week as they were outscored 29-27 by their opponents.  The Orioles pitching didn’t do too well last week and that hurt the O’s.  The Orioles came into this week tied for 3rd place with the Devil Rays in the American League East, 6.5 games behind the Red Sox with a 14-17 record.
