The desperate Baltimore Orioles buy a couple veteran contracts
The Baltimore Orioles are so desperate for pitching after they found out that Erik Bedard will miss the rest of the season coupled with the trade of Steve Trachsel that they puchased the contracts of Victor Santos (from the Reds) and Victor Zambrano (from the Pirates). Santos will start on Tuesday for the Orioles. Santos pitched in 32 games in relief for the Reds this season and he was 1-4 with a 5.14 ERA. He pitched 49 innings for the Reds and he allowed 51 hits, 10 homers, walked 23 batters and whiffed 44. Victor Zambrano was pitching in AAA ball for the Pirates as he started 13 games there and he was 5-2 with a 5.56 ERA and a 1.44 WHIP. In 8 games (2 starts) for the Blue Jays earlier this season he was 0-2 with a 10.97 ERA and a 2.91 WHIP. Don’t expect much from these guys as their teams pretty much let them go because they weren’t pitching too well this season.
I went to one of the games that Victor Zambrano pitched. He hit the first batter with the first pitch. Then proceeded to walk the next 2 batters before he gave up a line drive fly ball hit by Frank Thomas requiring Payton to make his one good play of the season. Zambrano then proceeded to walk every other batter until Trembley took him out. Enough said…
