Outfielder Jay Gibbons of the Baltimore Orioles has been suspended for the first 15 games of the 2008 season due to a violation of Major League Baseball’s Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program. Gibbons looked drug free last season as he played in 84 games and was 62 for 270 (.230 avg, .620 OPS) with 28 runs scored, 6 homers and 28 RBIs. Gibbons has now played in 779 games in his major league career and he is 724 for 2,787 (.260 avg, .767 OPS) with 348 runs scored, 121 homers and 405 RBIs. The Orioles got screwed by Gibbons who is being paid big money for all of the homers he hit while he was doing drugs, but, the return they get is a clean, untalented without drugs Jay Gibbons.

What a disappointment. I remember thinking he had a future with the team, but now it proves he never had the tools to be in the Show…I need to admit though, the Orioles signed him to this big contract and these rumors of him have been swirling around for years, so we have no one to blame but our Oriole’s Management. We should have traded him to the Dodgers 4 years ago when we had the chance….

I agree with everything you have said. I remember that all of a sudden he showed up with the biggest guns on the team after 1 off-season and that raised flags about him. You are right they should have traded him 4 years ago. Instead the Orioles spent money on a cheater that could have been much better used on some pitching.
