The Orioles have traded shortstop Miguel Tejada to the Astros for Troy Patton, Matt Albers, Dennis Sarfate, Luke Scott and Michael Costanzo. 22 year old lefty starting pitcher Troy Patton is probably the key to this deal as he’s one of the best prospects that the Astros have. He pitched in 3 games (2 starts) for the Astros last season and he was 0-2 with a 3.55 ERA and a 1.11 WHIP. In AA+AAA ball last season he started 24 games and he was 10-8 with a 3.51 ERA and a 1.22 WHIP. 24-year old Matt Albers is also a solid prospect but he’s been having trouble in the majors so far in his career. He pitched in 31 games (18 starts) last season for the Astros and he was 4-11 with a 5.86 ERA and a 1.60 WHIP. He has now pitched in 35 games (20 starts) in his major league career and he is 4-13 with a 5.87 ERA and a 1.60 WHIP. Dennis Sarfate is a 26-year old fireballer who has had success in his limited opportunities. Sarfate pitched in 7 games for the Astros last season and he is 1-0 with a 1.08 ERA and a 1.14 WHIP. He has now worked in 15 games in his major league career and he is 1-0 with a 2.70 ERA and a 1.14 WHIP. Sarfate has whiffed 25 batters in only 16.2 innings in his major league career. Sarfate pitched in 45 games last season in AAA ball and he was 2-7 with 4 saves, a 4.52 ERA and a 1.75 WHIP. 29 year old lefty swinging outfielder Luke Scott is the most established played the Orioles received from the Astros and he should step right into a major role in the outfield. He played in 132 games last season for the Astros and he was 94 for 369 (.255 avg, .855 OPS) with 49 runs scored, 18 homers and 64 RBIs. He has now played in 231 games in his major league career and he is 181 for 663 (.273 avg, .882 OPS) with 86 runs scored, 28 homers and 105 RBIs. Michael Costanzo is a 24-year old third baseman that had a solid year in AA last season. He played in 137 games in AA ball and he was 137 for 508 (.270 avg, .858 OPS) with 92 runs scored, 27 homers, 86 RBIs. He does need to make more contact however as he whiffed 157 times last season.

With the Orioles in rebuilding move this was a nice haul to get for Tejada. It will be interesting to see what other moves the Orioles are willing to make this off-season.
