The Baltimore Orioles have claimed 27-year old righty starting pitcher Todd Redmond off waivers from the Reds. He pitched in 26 games (25 starts) in AAA-ball for the Reds and Braves last year and he was 8-11 with a 3.63 ERA and a 1.27 WHIP. He started 1 game for the Reds last year (his major league debut) and he was 0-1 with a 10.80 ERA and a 3.60 WHIP. Redmond will likely start the 2013 season in AAA-ball for the Orioles. The Orioles have designated outfielder Trayvon Robinson for assignment to make room on the roster for Redmond. It’s doubtful that Robinson will clear waivers, so the Orioles will need to try to deal him in the next week or so.
UPDATE: (2/15/2013) – Trayvon Robinson has been outrighted to AAA, as he did clear waivers.
UPDATE: (3/23/2013) – Todd Redmond has been lost on waivers to the Blue Jays. He pitched in 5 games (0 starts) in spring training for the Orioles and he was 2-0 with a 5.63 ERA and a 1.50 WHIP. This is no loss for the O’s moving forward.
