The Baltimore Orioles sign Jon Rauch

The Orioles have signed 34-year old righty reliever Jon Rauch to a minor league deal.  Rauch pitched in 15 games (0 starts) earlier this year for the Marlins and he was 1-2 with a 7.56 ERA and a 1.80 WHIP.  Rauch has now pitched in 556 games (11 starts) in his first 11 years in the majors and he is 43-40 with 62 saves, a 3.90 ERA and a 1.24 WHIP.  Rauch probably won’t be in the minors too long if he looks good down there, as the Orioles could use some more help from the bullpen.

UPDATE:  (7/3/2013) – The Orioles have released Jon Rauch as he opted out of his minor league deal.  Rauch pitched in 10 games (0 starts) in AAA-ball for the Orioles and he was 1-0 with a 2.89 ERA and a 1.39 WHIP.

Freddy Garcia is looking sharp for the Baltimore Orioles as of late

36-year old righty starting pitcher Freddy Garcia has been awesome in his last three starts.  In those starts, Garcia is 2-0 with a 1.89 ERA and a 0.89 WHIP.  Garcia has now pitched in 6 games (all starts) overall this year for the Orioles and he is 2-2 with a 3.57 ERA and a 1.02 WHIP.  This is a big surprise as Garcia looked like he was toast for the Yankees last year.  The Orioles hope that he has a lot left in the gas tank, as the rotation has been disappointing overall so far in 2013.
