The Baltimore Orioles acquire Steve Pearce from the Tampa Bay Rays

Blogged under Arrivals & Departures,Big Orioles News,Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Trades by joelapinski on Monday 1 August 2016 at 6:05 pm

The Baltimore Orioles have acquired 33-year old righty swinging 1B/2B/OF Steve Pearce from the Tampa Bay Rays for 21-year old switch-hitting catcher Jonah Heim.

Pearce played in 60 games for the Tampa Bay Rays this year and he was 63 of 204 (.309 avg, .908 OPS) with 26 runs scored, 10 homers and 29 RBIs.  He is coming back to the Orioles.  He has played in 266 games in his first four years with the Orioles and he is 212 of 822 (.258 avg, .816 OPS) with 115 runs scored, 43 homers, 116 RBIs and 7 stolen bases.  Pearce has now played in 544 games in his first 10 years in the show and he is 403 of 1,579 (.255 avg, .776 OPS) with 199 runs scored, 63 homers, 209 RBIs and 13 stolen bases.

Heim came into this season as the Orioles’ #15 prospect according to Baseball America, solely on the strength of his defense.  Heim played in 88 games in A-ball for the Orioles this year and he was 63 of 291 (.216 avg, .644 OPS) with 30 runs scored, 7 homers, 30 RBIs and 2 stolen bases.

This was a great deal for the Orioles.  I see Pearce playing a lot of left field for the Orioles the rest of the year for them in 2016.
