The Baltimore Orioles have activated 30-year old righty swinging catcher Caleb Joseph off the D.L.  Joseph has played in 23 games for the Orioles so far this year and he is 12 of 66 (.182 avg, .452 OPS) with 5 runs scored, 0 homers or RBIs.  To make room on the roster for Joseph, the Orioles have sent 26-year old righty swinging catcher Francisco Pena to AAA.  Pena played in 9 games for the Orioles this year and he was 7 for 32 (.219 avg, .577 OPS) with 5 runs scored, 1 homer and 3 RBIs.

The Baltimore Orioles have activated 28-year old righty reliever/starter Vance Worley off the D.L.  Worley has pitched in 17 games (2 starts) for the Orioles so far this year and he is 2-0 with a 2.66 ERA and a 1.35 WHIP.  To make room for Worley on the pitching staff, the Orioles have sent 29-year old righty reliever Oliver Drake to AAA.  Drake pitched in 4 games (0 starts) for the Orioles this year and he was 0-0 with a 9.53 ERA and a 1.77 WHIP.  Drake has now pitched in 17 games (0 starts) in his first two years with the Orioles and he is 0-0 with a 4.64 ERA and a 1.64 WHIP.

The Baltimore Orioles have called 27-year old lefty reliever T.J. McFarland back up to the show.  He has pitched in 14 games (0 starts) for the Orioles so far this year and he is 2-2 with a 4.70 ERA and a 1.57 WHIP.  McFarland has now pitched in 119 games (2 starts) in his first four years with the Orioles and he is 12-7 with a 3.98 ERA and a 1.53 WHIP.  McFarland hopes that he gets to stay a with the Orioles a little longer this time around.

UPDATE:  (6/30/2016) – The Baltimore Orioles have placed T.J. McFarland on the D.L. due to a knee injury.  He has pitched in 15 games (0 starts) for the Orioles so far this year and he is 2-2 with a 5.63 ERA and a 1.63 WHIP.  The Orioles have called up 29-year old righty reliever Chaz Roe to replace McFarland in the pen.  Roe pitched in 33 games (0 starts) in AAA-ball for the Orioles this year and he was 1-2 with 4 saves, a 2.39 ERA and a 0.98 WHIP.  Roe has pitched in 60 games (0 starts) in his first three years in the show and he is 5-2 with a 4.25 ERA and a 1.49 WHIP.

The Baltimore Orioles have outrighted 33-year old righty swinging infielder Paul Janish to AAA.  Janish played in 14 games for the Orioles this year and he was 6 for 31 (.194 avg, .512 OPS) with 3 runs scored, 0 homers and 0 RBIs.  Janish has now played in 28 games in his first two years with the O’s and he is 16 of 66 (.242 avg, .585 OPS) with 7 runs scored, 0 homers and 3 RBIs.  The Orioles have called up 29-year old righty reliever Oliver Drake to replace Janish on the active roster.  Drake has pitched in 27 games (0 starts) in AAA-ball for the Orioles so far this year and he was 0-1 with 10 saves, a 2.02 ERA and a 1.16 WHIP.  Drake got his first taste of the show last year for the Orioles, working in 13 games (0 starts) in which he was 0-0 with a 2.87 ERA and a 1.60 WHIP.

The Baltimore Orioles have activated 33-year old righty swinging SS J.J. Hardy from the 15-day disabled list.  Hardy has played in 22 games for the O’s so far this year and he is 19 of 78 (.244 avg, .701 OPS) with 11 runs scored, 2 homers and 8 RBIs.  Hardy played in 3 games in AA-ball on his rehab assignment and he was 4 for 11 (.364 avg, .780 OPS) with 1 run scored.  Getting Hardy back will shift Manny Machado back to 3B.  To make room on the active roster for Hardy, the Orioles have sent 27-year old lefty reliever T.J. McFarland back to AAA.  McFarland has pitched in 13 games (0 starts) for the Orioles so far this year and he is 1-2 with a 5.14 ERA and a 1.52 WHIP.  He has now pitched in 118 games (2 starts) in his first four years with the Orioles and he is 11-7 with a 4.02 ERA and a 1.52 WHIP.  McFarland will probably work his way back to Baltimore later this year.

The Baltimore Orioles have sent 26-year old righty starting pitcher Mike Wright to AAA.  Wright pitched in 13 games (12 starts) for the Orioles so far this year and he is 3-4 with a 6.12 ERA and a 1.50 WHIP.  He gave up 73 hits (12 homers) and 24 walks while whiffing 46 batters in his first 64 2/3 innings this year for the Orioles, as he has gotten hit hard.  The Orioles should consider trying Wright in the bullpen, where his stuff could play out well.  The Orioles will activate Yovani Gallardo off the D.L. to take Wright’s place in the starting rotation.

The Baltimore Orioles have released 28-year old lefty reliever/starter Andy Oliver after he opted out of his minor league contract.  Oliver pitched in 13 games (4 starts) in AAA-ball for the Orioles this year and he was 0-0 with a 2.08 ERA and a 1.18 WHIP.  He has pitched in 7 games (all starts) in his first two years in the show and he is 0-5 with a 7.11 ERA and a 1.83 WHIP.  The Orioles won’t miss Oliver too much moving forward.

UPDATE:  (6/17/2016) – The Baltimore Orioles have re-signed Andy Oliver to a minor league deal.

The Baltimore Orioles place Darren O’Day on the D.L.

The Baltimore Orioles have placed 33-year old righty reliever Darren O’Day on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to June 2nd, due to a strained right hamstring.  O’Day has pitched in 22 games (0 starts) for the Orioles so far this year and he is 2-1 with 2 saves, a 3.15 ERA and a 1.35 WHIP.  He has given up 18 hits (a whopping 5 homers) and 9 walks while whiffing 25 batters in his first 20 innings this year.  O’Day has now pitched in 295 games (0 starts) in his first five years with the O’s and he is 25-9 with 14 saves, a 2.00 ERA and a 0.97 WHIP.

The Baltimore Orioles have sent 26-year old righty starting pitcher Mike Wright to AAA.  Wright pitched in 10 games (9 starts) for the Orioles this year and he was 2-3 with a 5.88 ERA and a 1.47 WHIP.  He has given up 56 hits (9 homers) and 16 walks while whiffing 36 batters in his first 49 innings this year, so he got hit hard.  Wright has now pitched in 22 games (18 starts) in his first two years with the Orioles and he is 5-8 with a 5.96 ERA and a 1.52 WHIP.  The Orioles might want to try out Wright as a reliever in the minors, as he has a really good arm.

UPDATE:  (6/3/2016) – The Orioles have called Mike Wright back up to the majors to replace Darren O’Day, who has been placed on the D.L.
