Blogged under Arrivals & Departures,Bloglockers,Front Page,General by joelapinski on Monday 5 September 2016 at 8:54 pm

The Baltimore Orioles have designated 29-year old righty reliever Odrisamer Despaigne for assignment.  Despaigne pitched in 16 games (0 starts) for the Orioles this year and he was 0-2 with a 5.60 ERA and a 1.72 WHIP.  He gave up 32 hits and 15 walks while whiffing 17 batters in his 27 1/3 innings for the Orioles this year.  He has now pitched in 66 games (34 starts) in his first three years in the show and he is 9-18 with a 4.84 ERA and a 1.36 WHIP.  This isn’t going to hurt the Orioles too much moving forward, as Despaigne didn’t pitch too well for them this year.

UPDATE:  (9/15/2016) – The Orioles have lost Odrisamer Despaigne on waivers to the Miami Marlins.

The Baltimore Orioles have acquired 33-year old lefty swinging outfielder Michael Bourn from the Arizona Diamondbacks for 20-year old righty swinging outfielder Jason Heinrich.  Bourn played in 89 games for the D-Backs this year and he was 86 of 329 (.261 avg, .669 OPS) with 43 runs scored, 3 homers, 30 RBI and 13 stolen bases.  Bourn has now played in 1,337 games in his first 11 years in the show and he is 1,259 of 4,738 (.266 avg, .686 OPS) with 673 runs scored, 34 homers, 353 RBI and 339 stolen bases.  He has also played in 4 games in the playoffs so far in his career and he is 1 for 10 (.100 avg, .200 OPS) with 1 RBI.  Bourn is a two time All-Star and he has won two Gold Glove Awards so far in his career.  Heinrich played in 44 games in A-ball for the Orioles this year and he was 34 of 147 (.231 avg, .648 OPS) with 16 runs scored, 3 homers, 13 RBI and 1 stolen base.  I like this move for the Orioles as Bourn will give them a speed dimension both in the field and on the bases.

The Baltimore Orioles place Chris Tillman on the D.L.

Blogged under Arrivals & Departures,Big Orioles News,Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Injuries by joelapinski on Wednesday 24 August 2016 at 7:22 pm

The Baltimore Orioles have placed 28-year old righty starting pitcher Chris Tillman on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to August 21st, due to right shoulder inflammation.  Tillman has pitched in 26 games (all starts) for the Orioles so far this year and he is 15-5 with a 3.76 ERA and a 1.27 WHIP.  He has given up 136 hits and 58 walks while whiffing 126 batters in his first 153 innings for the Orioles so far this year.  32-year old righty Ubaldo Jimenez will replace Tillman in the rotation, but he will have to pitch well to get more than one start this time around.  Jimenez has pitched in 22 games (18 starts) for the Orioles so far this year and he is 5-10 with 1 save, a 6.94 ERA and a 1.91 WHIP.  He has given up 122 hits and 59 walks while whiffing 87 batters in his first 94 2/3 innings this year for the Orioles, as he has truly been awful!  The Orioles have called up 26-year old righty starting pitcher Mike Wright to replace Tillman on the active roster.  Wright has pitched in 14 games (12 starts) for the Orioles so far this year and he is 3-4 with a 5.97 ERA and a 1.47 WHIP.  Wright has given up 76 hits (12 homers) and 26 walks while whiffing 48 batters in his first 69 1/3 innings for the Orioles so far this year.  The Orioles hope that Tillman only has to miss a couple of weeks, as he has been by far their best starting pitcher in 2016!
