Manny Machado is done for the season for the Baltimore Orioles

Blogged under Big Orioles News, Bloglockers, Front Page, General, Injuries by joelapinski on Wednesday 25 September 2013 at 6:36 am

21-year old righty swinging 3B Manny Machado will miss the rest of the 2013 season after tearing a ligament in his knee in Tampa last Monday Night.  The good news is that his injury won’t require surgery and he should be running again in six to eight weeks.  Machado played in 156 games for the Orioles this year and he was 189 of 667 (.283 avg, .746 OPS) with 88 runs scored, 51 doubles, 14 homers, 71 RBIs and 6 stolen bases.  He has now played in 207 games in his first two years with the O’s and he is 239 of 858 (.279 avg, .744 OPS) with 112 runs scored, 21 homers, 97 RBIs and 8 stolen bases.  The Orioles and Machado really dodged a bullet here as this injury did not look good when it happened.

The Baltimore Orioles place Steve Pearce on the D.L.

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, General, Injuries by joelapinski on Saturday 31 August 2013 at 10:31 am

The Orioles have placed 30-year old righty swinging OF/1B Steve Pearce on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to August 28th, due to left wrist inflammation.  Pearce has played in 38 games for the Orioles so far this year and he is 26 of 108 (.241 avg, .689 OPS) with 13 runs scored, 3 homers, 9 RBIs and 1 stolen base.  He has now played in 66 games in his first two years with the Orioles and he is 44 of 179 (.246 avg, .716 OPS) with 21 runs scored, 6 homers, 23 RBIs and 1 stolen base.  The arrival of Mike Morse via a trade with the Mariners, likely means that Pearce won’t play much when he returns to action.

The Baltimore Orioles place Nolan Reimold on the D.L.

The Orioles have placed 29-year old righty swinging OF/DH Nolan Reimold on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to July 14th, due to inflammation in his spine.  Reimold has played in 40 games for the O’s so far this year and he is 25 of 128 (.195 avg, .596 OPS) with 17 runs scored, 5 homers and 12 RBIs.  Reimold has now played in 286 games in his first five years with the Orioles and he is 236 of 936 (.252 avg, .766 OPS) with 125 runs scored, 41 homers, 126 RBIs and 16 stolen bases.  He just can’t seem to stay healthy for the Orioles.

The Baltimore Orioles place Steve Johnson on the D.L.

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, General, Injuries by joelapinski on Thursday 6 June 2013 at 10:48 am

The Baltimore Orioles have placed 25-year old reliever/starter Steve Johnson on the 15-day disabled list due to a strained left oblique.  Johnson has pitched in 5 games (1 start) for the Orioles so far this year and he is 1-1 with a 8.49 ERA and a 1.80 WHIP.  Johnson has now pitched in 17 games (5 starts) for the Orioles in his first two years with them and he is 5-1 with a 3.60 ERA and a 1.24 WHIP.  This is a bad break for Johnson.

Lew Ford is going to be out for a while for the Baltimore Orioles

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, General, Injuries, The Minors by joelapinski on Wednesday 5 June 2013 at 8:19 pm

36-year old righty swinging outfielder Lew Ford will need groin surgery, which will likely shelve him for most of the rest of the 2013 season.  Ford played in 21 games in AA+AAA-ball for the Orioles this year and he was 18 for 79 (.228 avg, .727 OPS) with 15 runs scored, 3 homers and 10 RBIs.  He played in 25 games for the Orioles last year (his first with the team) and he was 13 for 71 (.183 avg, .609 OPS) with 7 runs scored, 3 homers, 4 RBIs and 1 stolen base.  This is a bad break for Ford, as he was likely going to get another shot at the show at some point in 2013.

The Baltimore Orioles have placed Pedro Strop on the D.L.

Blogged under Big Orioles News, Bloglockers, Front Page, General, Injuries by joelapinski on Saturday 25 May 2013 at 4:00 pm

The Orioles have placed 27-year old righty reliever Pedro Strop on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to May 24th, due to a strained lower back.  Strop has pitched in 22 games (0 starts) for the Orioles so far this year and he is 0-2 with a 6.11 ERA and a 1.59 WHIP.  The Orioles have called up 25-year old righty Steve Johnson to replace Strop in the pen.  He pitched in 1 game (1 start) earlier this year for the Orioles and he was 0-1 with a 13.50 ERA and a 2.75 WHIP.  He also has pitched in 4 games (all starts) in AAA-ball so far this year and he is 1-2 with a 5.49 ERA and a 1.48 WHIP.  Johnson will try to get back the magic he had working in 2012 for the Orioles this time around.  Johnson pitched in 12 games (4 starts) for the Orioles last year and he was 4-0 with a 2.11 ERA and a 1.07 WHIP.

The Baltimore Orioles place Nolan Reimold on the D.L.

Blogged under Big Orioles News, Bloglockers, Front Page, General, Injuries by joelapinski on Saturday 18 May 2013 at 1:09 pm

The Baltimore Orioles have placed righty swinging OF/DH Nolan Reimold on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to May 12th, due to a strained right hamstring.  Reimold has played in 31 games for the O’s so far this year and he is 19 for 101 (.188 avg, .583 OPS) with 14 runs scored, 4 homers and 9 RBIs.  31-year old lefty swinging outfielder Chris Dickerson is likely to get the most of a P.T. bump with Reimold out of action.  Dickerson has played in 12 games for the Orioles so far this year and he is 8 for 25 (.320 avg, .866 OPS) with 5 runs scored, 1 homer, 6 RBIs and 1 stolen base.

The Baltimore Orioles place Wei-Yin Chen on the D.L.

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, General, Injuries by joelapinski on Tuesday 14 May 2013 at 1:02 pm

The Orioles have placed 27-year old lefty starting pitcher Wei-Yin Chen on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to May 13th due to a strained right oblique.  Chen has started 8 games for the Orioles so far this year and he is 3-3 with a 3.04 ERA and a 1.20 WHIP.  Chen has now pitched in 40 games (all starts) in his first two years with the Orioles and he is 15-14 with a 3.83 ERA and a 1.25 WHIP.  This is a big loss for the Orioles as Chen has been their best starting pitcher so far this year.

Jonathan Schoop has been so-so in 2013 in the minors for the Baltimore Orioles

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, General, Injuries, The Minors by joelapinski on Friday 10 May 2013 at 1:26 pm

21-year old righty swinging 2B/SS Jonathan Schoop came into this season as the Orioles’ #3 prospect according to Baseball America.  He has played in 31 games in AAA-ball so far this year for the Orioles and he was 29 for 115 (.252 avg, .679 OPS) with 11 runs scored, 2 homers, 15 RBIs and 1 stolen base.  Schoop has now played in 413 games in his first five years in the minors and he is 417 of 1,572 (.265 avg, .728 OPS) with 221 runs scored, 34 homers, 212 RBIs and 30 stolen bases.  The Orioles have a huge hole at 2B, so if Schoop starts hitting in AAA-ball, he could get a chance with them at some point in 2013.

UPDATE:  (5/22/2013) - Schoop will miss the next 6-8 weeks due to a stress fracture in his back.
