The Baltimore Orioles have placed 30-year old righty starting pitcher Yovani Gallardo on the 15-day disabled list due to shoulder and bicep tendinitis.  Gallardo has pitched in 4 games (all starts) for the Orioles so far this year and he is 1-1 with a 7.00 ERA and a 1.67 WHIP.  He has allowed 23 hits and 7 walks in his first 18 innings while only whiffing 9 batters.  He was having a hard time getting his fastball into the mid to upper 80’s, which was a sure sign that something was wrong with him.  The O’s signed him to a 2-year, $22 million dollar deal despite having some red flags show up in his physical concerning his right shoulder….so they have no one to blame but the front office for this happening.  The Orioles have activated 29-year old lefty reliever Brian Matusz off the D.L. to replace Gallardo on the roster.  Matusz pitched in 5 games (1 start) in A+AA-ball on a rehab assignment and he was 0-0 with a 7.20 ERA and a 1.20 WHIP.  He pitched in 58 games (0 starts) for the Orioles last year and he was 1-4 with a 2.94 ERA and a 1.18 WHIP.  Matusz should help bolster the Orioles’ bullpen.

29-year old lefty reliever Brian Matusz will start the 2016 season on the 15-day disabled list due to a strained back.  Matusz pitched in 58 games (0 starts) for the Baltimore Orioles last year and he was 1-4 with a 2.94 ERA and a 1.18 WHIP.  He has now pitched in 272 games (68 starts) in his first 7 years in the show and he is 27-41 with a 4.76 ERA and a 1.43 WHIP.  His career numbers are skewed by his rough early years as a starting pitcher.  In his 204 games out of the bullpen, Matusz is 6-8 with a 3.16 ERA and a 1.17 WHIP.  The Orioles hope that he gets well soon, because they need him.

Jimmy Paredes will start the 2016 season on the D.L. for the Baltimore Orioles

27-year old switch-hitting IF/OF Jimmy Paredes will start the 2016 season on the disabled list due to a wrist injury.  Paredes played in 104 games for the Orioles last year and he was 100 of 363 (.275 avg, .726 OPS) with 46 runs scored, 10 homers, 42 RBIs and 4 stolen bases.  He has now played in 249 games in his first five years in the majors and he is 204 of 793 (.257 avg, .662 OPS) with 89 runs scored, 15 homers, 81 RBIs and 19 stolen bases.  The Orioles have some issues in the outfield right now, so they hope Paredes won’t be out too long.

Kevin Gausman will start the 2016 season on the D.L. for the Baltimore Orioles

Blogged under Big Orioles News,Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Injuries by joelapinski on Tuesday 29 March 2016 at 12:32 pm

25-year old righty starting pitcher Kevin Gausman will start the 2016 season on the disabled list for the Baltimore Orioles.  Gausman pitched in 25 games (17 starts) for the Orioles last year and he was 4-7 with a 4.25 ERA and a 1.23 WHIP.  Gausman has now pitched in 65 games (42 starts) in his first three years with the Orioles and he is 14-19 with a 4.21 ERA and a 1.28 WHIP.  The results have never caught up to the stuff that Gausman has.  The Orioles will use 26-year old righty Mike Wright when Gausman’s starts come up when he’s on the D.L.  Wright has pitched in 5 games (all starts) in spring training for the Orioles and he is 1-2 with a 5.74 ERA and a 1.47 WHIP.  Wright pitched in 12 games (9 starts) for the Orioles last year in his first taste of the majors and he was 3-5 with a 6.04 ERA and a 1.57 WHIP.  The Orioles hope that Wright will be better the second time around, as he also has really good stuff….just like Gausman.

Manny Machado is done for the season for the Baltimore Orioles

Blogged under Big Orioles News,Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Injuries by joelapinski on Wednesday 25 September 2013 at 6:36 am

21-year old righty swinging 3B Manny Machado will miss the rest of the 2013 season after tearing a ligament in his knee in Tampa last Monday Night.  The good news is that his injury won’t require surgery and he should be running again in six to eight weeks.  Machado played in 156 games for the Orioles this year and he was 189 of 667 (.283 avg, .746 OPS) with 88 runs scored, 51 doubles, 14 homers, 71 RBIs and 6 stolen bases.  He has now played in 207 games in his first two years with the O’s and he is 239 of 858 (.279 avg, .744 OPS) with 112 runs scored, 21 homers, 97 RBIs and 8 stolen bases.  The Orioles and Machado really dodged a bullet here as this injury did not look good when it happened.
