The Baltimore Ravens had another solid draft in 2012
The Ravens did an outstanding job with their first three picks (Courtney Upshaw, Kelechi Osemele and Bernard Pierce), as they were impact players in 2012 and they will get even better down the road. The rest of the guys look like bench players. Here is a look at how the rookies did in 2012:
2nd round (#35 overall) – Courtney Upshaw, OLB – 23-year old Coutney Upshaw played in all 16 games for the Ravens this year and he had 60 tackles, 1.5 sacks, 7 tackles for a loss, 2 forced fumbles, 2 fumble recoveries and 2 passes defensed. He is just scratching the surface of his potential.
2nd round (#60 overall) – Kelechi Osemele, OG – 23-year old Kelechi Osemele started all 16 games for the Ravens as a rookie. He looks like he’s going to be a fixture on the Ravens’ O-Line for a long time.
3rd round (#84 overall) – Bernard Pierce, RB – 22-year old Bernard Pierce is an outstanding back with solid power. He played in 16 games for the Ravens this year and he carried the ball 108 times for 532 yards (4.9 ypc) with 1 TD run. Pierce also has caught 7 passes for 47 yards (6.7 avg) this year. Pierce is a solid complement to Ray Rice.
4th round (#98 overall) – Gino Gradkowski, G/C – 24-year old Gino Gradkowski played in all 16 games for the Ravens this year, but he didn’t start any of them. He is a solid backup at all three interior positions on the O-Line.
4th round (#130 overall) – Christian Thompson, S – 22-year old safety Christian Thompson played in 7 games for the Ravens this year, but he didn’t have any tackles.
5th round (#169 overall) – Asa Jackson, CB – 23-year old Asa Jackson played in 3 games for the Ravens in 2012 and he had 1 tackle.
6th round (#198 overall) – Tommy Streeter, WR – 24-year old Tommy Streeter spent his entire rookie season on the Injured Reserve list.
